Historical Wine Books
This "historical" section is my favorite of the Wine Books topics. The history of wine in America is long, interesting, and even bloody at times. It is full of memorable personalities, daunting obstacles, and daring entrepreneurs. If you take some time to investigate the path that lead to the glass of wine sitting on your table right now, you might be surprised to find that America's wine making legacy started from the most humble roots. Or, that is was almost extinguished altogether during Prohibition. If it wasn't for the ingenious thinking of these Prohibition era wineries, who survived by making grape juice and sacramental wines, or the risk-takers like Beringer and the Christian brothers, who carried on making good wine despite faltering demand in later years, American wine making might have died out altogether. But, in good times and bad, there have bold Americans willing to risk their fortune to make good wine. Thanks to this, American wine now competes with the best wines of France, Italy, and the rest of the world. The following recommended books are a few of the ones I find most interesting. Of course, please share your book recommendations and reviews in the comments section.
