Recommended Wine Making Books

There are about a million wine making books and e-books available to the home vintner. Most of them are pretty good. If you are just starting out, all of the books I recommend here will tell you the basics, what gear you should own, and everything else you need to know to begin, with at least a couple of good recipes to get you started.

Many of you have already started making your own home made wine. You will also find useful info in these recommended books and e-books, including new recipes, tips to make your wine better and easier, and some info on growing your own grapes and some more advanced topics.

If you know of a good wine making book that is not on my list, make sure you let me know in the comments section below.

Wine Making E-Books

Wine Making at Home
by Peter Sampson
This is a pretty good guide if you are just starting out. Basically it's focus is on how to not make bad wine. If you've ever made wine you know that it is in fact really easy to mess up your wine. Includes and e-book and audio guide. It also comes with a bonus pack of about 10 good recipes.

Grape Growing and Wine Making: The Total Wine Making System
by Michael James
This has a really detailed guide on how to grow your own grapes. If you have ever considered growing your own grapes, there is a lot to know (which kind of grapes you can grow, how to not kill them, etc). I have never tried myself so I can't really comment. If someone reads this guide please post your review in the comments. The wine-making portion of it is definitely useful though. Comes with 2 bonus ebooks (Wine Sipper's Guide and Dictionary of Tasting Terms and an mp3 audio version.

Making Great Wine
This is a really simple, to-the-point guide on making wine. It includes a bunch of good easy recipes for beginners.

Wine Making Books

Of the above books, The Joy of Home Wine Making is my personal recommendation. It is simply written, to the point, and includes everything that you really need to know, including some good recipes. I would say it's written in a similar style to The Joy of Cooking or The Homebrewer's Bible. Check it out, make wine, drink, and be merry!!!
